Protests erupt outside Kasba Police station as 3 arrested in alleged Kolkata college gang rape
In a swift response following the horrific Pahalgam terror attack, security forces foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Wednesday morning. Two terrorists were killed during the encounter, according to officials.
The Army reported that around 2-3 unidentified terrorists tried to infiltrate through the Sarjeevan area at Uri Nala, north Kashmir. Alert troops challenged the movement and engaged the infiltrators in a fierce firefight. Shortly after the operation began, two terrorists were confirmed dead.
Security forces recovered a large quantity of weapons, ammunition, and other war-like stores from the slain terrorists. The search operation in the area remains ongoing, as authorities believe there may be more infiltrators hiding nearby.
This encounter took place just hours after twenty-six civilians, including tourists, lost their lives in a brutal terror attack at Baisaran in Pahalgam. The Resistance Front, a Lashkar-e-Taiba proxy, has claimed responsibility for that attack, although official confirmation is awaited.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the Pahalgam strike and assured the nation that the culprits will not be spared. Cutting short his Saudi Arabia visit, PM Modi chaired a high-level security review meeting immediately after returning to Delhi, underlining the government's unshakable resolve to combat terrorism.
Military helicopters were deployed to evacuate the injured from Baisaran, a remote area accessible only by foot or horseback. Security across Kashmir has been heightened following back-to-back terror-related incidents.
